Effective Use of Promotional Items at Tradeshows

If you are going to use promotional items, you want to make sure that they have your company name and logo on them.

A lot of companies mistakenly believe that their logo is sufficient and for some it is.

However, a number of studies have shown that with name changes, consolidations, mergers and acquisitions, most company logos have low recognition among the target audiences.

Another factor to consider is to include a way of contacting you or your company. With the advent of the internet, many companies are putting their internet addresses on their promotional items. By the way, you don’t need to include “http://” including “www.company site.com” is sufficient these days. If you have an 800 or other toll-free number, that may be more appropriate.

Tradeshow sponsors have found a lucrative source of revenue by offering exhibitors the “opportunity” to be a sponsor by having their name on the registration package or handout bag or similar item that each attendee receives when they register.

If you can’t afford to be the prime sponsor, they will give you the “opportunity” to put a promotional item or brochure in the “goodie bag.” Generally these items are a waste of your time and money.

Yes, you will get some exposure from having everybody carrying around a bag with your name and if you are trying to build company or brand awareness, then it may be a good idea, otherwise the message is usually lost on the audience and tossed away then they get home.
